So I recently got my hair smoothened. I had been thinking of doing it from past 1 year but just hadn't had the patience and time to get it done. The whole procedure takes at least 3.5 hours and I honestly just can't wait that long. This time I had my mother along with me so it was easier to pass time while chatting with her and hence, the process of smoothening smoothened for me. 😄
While I got the smoothening done on my hair, I bombarded my hair dresser with questions around the process, products and hair care required during and after smoothening is done. While I am sure you will find millions of blogs sharing hair care tips for smoothened hair, I'd like to share the products my hair dresser recommended, which I am using and they actually work great! 😃
Shampoo and Hair Masque
I got this shampoo and hair masque from Loreal Paris. It's from their Xtenso Care range. It smells amazing and really soft on your chemically treated hair. You can use it on normal hair or treated hair, likewise. It leaves your hair fresh and soft. The shampoo cleans your scalp well. You would have to wash your hair twice, in case you have oiled it heavily as this is a mild one. Apply the hair masque from lengths to end and leave it for at least 5 mins for best results as that let's the conditioner to really work on your hair and provide the much needed nourishment for your chemically treated hair.
Hair Serum
A hair serum is very essential for all type of hair - be it treated or untreated. It helps to smoothen out your frizzes and makes your mane more manageable and easy to comb. My hair stylist recommended to use x-tenso care hair serum from Loreal Paris. You can apply it on either wet or dry hair. After every hair wash, take some hair serum on your palms and apply it from lengths to ends of your towel dried hair. It gives extra protection to your chemically treated hair. It nourishes, protects and gives a shine to your hair.
Pro Tip: You can blow dry using a dryer that has a cool air setting on your smoothened air after applying hair serum. Serum acts as a heat protectant and hair dryer gives your hair a salon-like finish.
5 tips for smoothened hair:
- Avoid washing your hair everyday as it makes your hair weak and brittle. Wash your hair twice or thrice a week or when needed.
- Never comb wet hair. Always comb once they are completely dry as combing can make your hair brittle and reduce the longevity of your hair treatment.
- Always use a hair masque or conditioner after shampoo. If you are feeling lazy, just cold wash your hair using conditioner alone (yes! ditch the shampoo) and wash it off for best results.
- Never apply serum on your scalp as it would make your hair look oily super soon.
- Use a wide toothed comb for combing your hair like the one shown below. Avoid using a hair brush on smoothened hair as the bristles of the brush can create friction and make your hair brittle.
